Let us take a moment to examine some defining characteristic of three troubling movements, which have cast long and dark shadows across modern history.

Nazism

  • Tactics: Terror, mutilation, and dismemberment
  • Human Tragedy: millions of innocent adults and children slaughtered
  • Ideology: that Jews and others are inferior, sub-human, and less than the Aryan race

Radical Islamic State

  • Tactics: Terror, mutilation, and dismemberment
  • Human Tragedy: thousands of innocent adults and children slaughtered
  • Ideology: that all those who oppose radical Islamism are inferior and honor false gods

Abortion

  • Tactics: Terror, mutilation, and dismemberment
  • Human Tragedy: more than a billion unborn babies slaughtered worldwide
  • Ideology: that unborn babies are inferior, undeserving of all humans rights

These three movements have led to similarly staggering human tragedies justified by illegitimate ideologies. However, abortion uses a tactic that neither Nazism nor the Radical Islamic State widely attempted: to deceive mothers into cooperating with the abortion of their own babies. The deployment of this evil tactic has led to the destruction of more lives than have been destroyed by the Nazism, Radical Islamic State, and all other evil empires combined.

The deception upon which abortion is founded – that abortion is choice and not murder – has been vehemently embraced by some of American society’s most-notables. Among these are influential individuals who claim to be outspoken advocates for women, including contraception pioneer Margaret Sanger, civil rights activist Jesse Jackson, Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards, former Senator Ted Kennedy, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and President Barrack Obama.

While the evil of abortion has the most shattering impact on unborn babies, it has a much broader destructive effect. This watershed atrocity begins with one child, spills over into mothers, fathers and families, and floods across all of human society. In 1986 at the United Nations General Assembly and again in 1994 at the National Prayer Breakfast, Nobel Peace Prize winner Mother Teresa of Kolkata (Calcutta) clearly stated her grave concerns with abortion:

  • “I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child, a direct killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?” (1886)
  • “Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. This is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion.” (1994)

Noting Mother Teresa’s concerns, we cannot help but look at the carnage occurring on streets across America: school shootings, rampant homicide, domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and violent breakdown of the trust between citizens and police. Mother Teresa’s worst fears have become a way of life – and it’s not unreasonable to trace this crisis to the devaluing of human life which extends even into a mother’s womb.   The worsening carnage on our streets is a deplorable but ultimately unavoidable result of the carnage of abortion.

In light of this most pressing holocaust, we must not shy aware from truth because it convicts us and our society. Whether complicit or not, all of us – children, mothers, families – are victims of the evil of abortion.   We must all stand together to defend the right to life of all persons, to defend the health and safety of all women, and to defend the liberties upon which our nation was founded.

  • “The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.”

–Albert Einstein

  • “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men should do nothing.”

–Edmund Burke

May we all have the courage and strength to do the right thing!
